Originally named Delhi Daredevils (2008-2018), the franchise rebranded to Delhi Capitals in 2019. Despite being one of the original eight teams, DC have never won the IPL. The early years were marked by inconsistency and frequent changes in captaincy and coaching staff. Players like Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers, and David Warner have all donned the Delhi jersey without delivering a title.
The 2019 rebranding coincided with a resurgence under Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting. DC reached the playoffs in 2019 and then made the final in 2020, losing to Mumbai Indians. The squad featured Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje. Though they haven't returned to the final since, DC have been building a squad capable of going the distance in 2026.
